I have been a lover of the arts all my life! No great feat these days, but I learned to read and write at the age of four, and was writing poems and stories by age six. Even at that age, I had a thirst and love for words, for stories, writing and for creating.
Like all of us, I began singing before I can even remember, I suppose it was at least at the same time I learned to speak, but most likely before!! I began singing in church at about age three. All my family were good and gifted singers, and I learned to sing harmony by ear from the cradle. My older brother and sisters were in a gospel choir, and they practiced their harmony parts in the car. I can't remember when I did not know how to sing harmony by ear. Music has always been my dearest love, and always will be! It's a wonderful gift God gave to me.
Drawing, painting, sculpting and all the visual arts are also a lifelong love for me. Drawing pictures in the dirt was my first creative expression. I loved art and drawing, but the true gift did not come as easily for me as music always did. No matter. I proceeded to apply myself and I learned the sweet agony of the sweat and toil that must sometimes be given for something one truly loves. I consider myself an artist now, after years of devotion to the discipline.
Writing and eloquence of expression, especially in writing, are another great love! Even the mechanics of grammar and syntax are beautiful, (almost sacred,) to me. What would we, the human race, have done without this gift of deep self expression?
Acting, stage and theater! Ahh! I have been performing on stage as a musician, in a serious way, since the age of twelve. As much as singing is a part of my very being, I have never experienced anything more thrilling than acting on stage! To become that character! The experience defies definition!!
I'm reaching out to others who, like me, have a love for all things creative and artistic!!
